First of all, the equation is more accurately 1g per lb of LEAN mass. And beyond that, carbs are protein sparing. So if you can stick to your diet with eating more carbs then by all means do it, you arent going to stifle muscle growth if you eat 150g protein instead of 180 (only real argument here is that protein is more satiating)
